Rowan grew up in the foothills of the Burren on the west coast of Ireland surrounded by traditional music from his father (Charlie Piggott of De Dannan) and his mother, Frances Marriott. He also has a great understanding of Swedish traditional music & has published a popular & influential book of Swedish fiddle tunes, many with his own harmony lines. Picture by Ben Potton.
This workshop will cover three different types of polska. We’ll learn to play their unique rhythms and the specific ornaments, bowings, and harmony lines that make the tunes come alive. Music will be available afterwards.

11:00 – 12:30 First we’ll learn an even polska – how to: tap your feet, introduce förslags & begin to hear harmony lines.
12:30 – 13:30 Lunch
13:30 Next we’ll learn an uneven polska – how to: feel the rhythm, vary the bowing, and introduce microtones.
15:15 Tea/coffee break
15.30 Finally we’ll learn a finnskogspols - how to: develop a harmony line and play with groove for dancing.
16:45 Finish
