For the first Artist Meet-Up of 2026, local photographer Chris Smith will give a 20-minute presentation in Mareel's Green Room, followed by soup* while taking part in some facilitated questions inspired by his presentation and work.
"I am a photographer specialising in analogue film and alternative photographic processes, with a focus on developing eco-friendly and cost-effective working methods. This talk presents Sea What Develops, a practice-based research project investigating the use of different seaweeds as developers for black-and-white film. Through systematic testing across two initial film stocks, the project examines both the photographic outcomes and the environmental implications of seaweed-based film development."
Artist Meet-Ups are open to anyone who sees themself as a Creative Practitioner and we welcome people of all experiences, so even if you're new to creativity, please do come along. They are an informal space to learn about an artists' work while sharing some of your own thoughts around your practice. The sessions aim is to bring people together.
