The Bop Shop in association with Shetland Arts present Mama Terra.
Mama Terra is an exciting new Scottish jazz/soul ensemble. Travelling to Shetland as an 8-piece, the band is the brainchild of pianist Marco Cafolla. Cafolla describes the music as "focused on Melody, Pocket & Sound; the music is a connection to our lives and time on this planet, with positivity and friendship flowing through every part of it."
Their debut album, The Summoned, was released on Acid Jazz Records. This Jazz/Spiritual/Soul/Roots-based record features influences from jazz giants like John & Alice Coltrane, Nina Simone, McCoy Tyner, and Miles Davis, as well as contemporary artists like Kamasi Washington, Erykah Badu, and Robert Glasper. The album earned them a nomination for 'Breakthrough Act 2025' at the Jazz FM Awards and was launched at the world-famous Ronnie Scott's in London to a standing ovation. As MOJO magazine noted, it "Bursts with zeal and vigour."
Support by Norman Willmore. Norman is a legend in the Scottish jazz scene. The saxophonist recently landed three nominations at the Scottish Jazz Awards. While known for his solo work, he also performs with Peatbog Faeries, Beth Orton, and Troppo Funk, and has delighted local audiences with his collaboration with Corrie Dick and the live recording, Alive & Well at the Muckle Roe Hall.
After the gig: Head to the Cafe Bar for the main event, where the Bop Shop DJs will keep the vibe going with jazz and soul sounds until close.
