About the event

Community Empowerment for the Next Chapter of The Forest Bridge
Join us on May 18th for an important event designed to empower the community to continue the vital conservation work in our region. As The Forest Bridge Trust transitions out of Jobs for Nature funding and our staff levels and support significantly reduce, this event will equip you with the tools, knowledge, and connections needed to sustain the progress that’s been made.

Part 1: Community Workshop & Sausage Sizzle (10:00 am - 1:00 pm)
The morning session will begin with a community workshop where we’ll briefly recap the achievements of The Forest Bridge Trust over the past decade and outline the challenges ahead. With Jobs for Nature funding ending in June, it’s essential that we work together to maintain the gains made in predator control and conservation efforts. This session will also provide practical training for self-sufficiency, covering topics like trap repair, maintenance, and audits, as well as a TrapNZ workshops. Our goal is to empower local people to take an active role in maintaining and enhancing the progress made, including becoming active hub coordinators.

After the workshop, we invite you to join us for a sausage sizzle from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to connect with other community members, volunteers, landowners, and local groups, exchange ideas, and learn about additional resources and support available in the area.

Part 2: Community Group Training Session (1:00 pm - 2:00 pm)
In the afternoon, we’ll focus on practical training for local community groups. This session will provide essential skills to ensure the community can continue its efforts independently.
Train-the-Trainer: Preparing local leaders to distribute traps and share key resources trapping competencies and best practices.
This session will help ensure the long-term sustainability of our conservation efforts and strengthen local leadership in protecting our region’s wildlife.
Attendees of Part 2 will be sent an invite.

This event marks a pivotal moment in the transition of responsibilities from The Forest Bridge Trust to the community, and we’re here to support you in taking this next step in our shared conservation journey.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Thanks to Auckland Council for funding this event.
