IF BEADS COULD TALK - RECREATING A BRONZE AGE COMPOSITE NECKLACE FROM COSSINGTON

In 1999 archaeologists from ULAS uncovered a rare Bronze Age composite bead necklace from a round barrow burial close to Cossington. The remarkable necklace has recently inspired a new exhibition, ‘My Jewellery, My Story’, that has encouraged involvement in a community based project at Loughborough’s Charnwood Museum, allowing people to reflect on the histories and stories that make their own jewellery special. As part of this an eye-catching replica of the Bronze Age necklace was made to accompany the exhibition. Join John Thomas (ULAS), Emma Jones (Ancient Craft) and Helen Sharp (Leicestershire County Council Museums) who will display the recreated necklace and describe its inspirational journey from discovery, through the process of recreation, and finally taking pride of place in a museum display.
