WORKSHOP INFORMATION
An introduction to Winter tree identification:
You will be given the tools to start identifying any tree in winter which loses its leaves (deciduous). You will also learn about a few commonly found evergreen trees. This course is focussed on learning how to observe trees and gather information on them systematically to come to as accurate identification as quickly as possible, rather than learning lots of individual species. You will learn how to identify the most common native trees
Trees in winter introduction: bark, buds and catkins - You will learn the basic parts of trees and those most important for identification. How to use your senses to identify a tree.
Shape, size and structure: We will go for a wander and learn about how trees grow and how form, and how branching can help us in identifying a tree. We will use all our senses to learn..t.ouching and smelling, looking, and listening.
Playing detective and being resourceful - looking for important clues to help you identify the tree. We’ll do a comparison exercise to practise your detective skills.
You will leave with a small self-made booklet on pertinent tree identification points and a bibliography.
