Pubdub returns after our summer break (we hope you caught us outside somewhere!) with our monthly sessions at The Fenton, Leeds.
Excited to kick the season off with long-standing selector and soundsystem builder and operator, High Pressure, being joined by the talented MC Peppery.
Hailing from the Wire Fence district in Trelawny, Jamaica, reggae dancehall artiste Peppery, real name Clayton Brown, is now, and has been based in Manchester in the United Kingdom for many years. Clayton grew up with his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Being the youngest in the family, he was never discouraged when he began to display an interest in the entertainment industry. Originally working under the moniker Bongo Chilli, he was only using Peppery as a slogan and was rather surprised when people started calling him Peppery, thinking that was his actual artist name. He even remembers recording a track for a particular producer and labelling the files as Bongo Chilli but when the producer released the record, it had Peppery as the artist. It seemed as if the name Peppery was inevitably his, so he adopted it and never looked back. Upon arrival in the UK, Clayton lived in Nottingham. It was there that he met the Guinness book of records holder for the fastest rap, Daddy Freddy who took him under his wings and brought him on tour with him around Europe. All well as touring the UK, performing at various Festivals including Glastonbury, Boomtown, Westival and Shambala; over the years he has released several singles, collaborated with a number of other artists and has been featured on many compilations.
Phil is one of the founder members, and the box builder, of Leeds based High Pressure Sound System and has played dub for over 20 years at free parties, club nights and festivals, alongside many of the biggest names in Reggae sound system. He has always loved rub a dub, early dancehall, roots rockers and steppas and been producing reggae and dub for over 15 years. Phil is also one of the founders of Ruffa Roots bandcamp label where you can find many High Pressure music releases. This time collaborating with Peppery on the mic, expect a high energy mix of killer roots and heavy steppas.
The Reaction Soundsystem Crew have been putting on dances around the Leeds area for nearly 20 years. The handbuilt Reaction Soundsystem is known throughout the dub scene for crystal clear, hifi quality sound and chest rattling heavyweight bass. The rig has travelled all over the country for festivals, free parties and community centres, with the Reaction DJs providing only positive vibes.
Pubdub launched in 2015, providing low entry-fee dances to Leeds community of bass lovers. It is run by a team of volunteers so proceeds are put back into community causes. The last few years have seen £500 donated to Camfed (Campaign for Female Education). Also £400 donated to support Hyde Park Unity Day.
