🍂 Autumn Flower Workshop: The Parallel/Continental Design 🍂
Get ready to embrace the beauty of autumn with our next flower workshop! You'll be creating elegant and contemporary Parallel/Continental Designs with our expert guidance.
This stunning style involves creating two or three small, vertical arrangements within a single long container, all parallel to each other. Each "column" of flowers can be different, yet connected by a theme, texture, or colour.
What We Provide:
A huge thank you to Jenny Hirst! We are thrilled to provide the ideal long containers for this design, so you don't need to worry about finding one.
💐 What You Will Need to Bring:
1. Floral Foam: One brick of floral foam, pre-soaked and cut to fit the container.
2. Flowers and Foliage: Your selection of beautiful autumn materials!
- Main Flowers (Choose 3 varieties):
You'll need 3-4 stems of each of your three chosen flowers (one variety for each column).
Good choices: Roses, Carnations, Germini, Dahlias, or Liatris.
Strong Stems: Iris or Gladioli also work wonderfully as strong uprights.
Pro-Tip: If you plan to use large, dominant flowers like Gladioli, they can require more space (we have used 2 trays for that design) so please bring an extra soaked brick of foam.
- Foliage (to cover your foam):
A good mix of textures and sizes.
Examples: Tree ivy (it's everywhere!), pittosporum, hebe, fatshedera, or hosta leaves.
Inspiration & Your Shopping List
This design is perfect for mixing fresh flowers with foraged treasures.
✨ Get Inspired:
- Go Foraging: Look for teasels, dried cow parsley, honesty, seed heads, bullrushes, or dried grasses.
- Add Structure: Give your design a contemporary edge with upright elements like twigs, eucalyptus bark, cordyline leaves, or grasses tied with twine.
- Pick a Palette: Think about your colour scheme! Will you use warm autumn shades, contrasting colours (like yellow and purple), or soft, connected tones?
