About the event

Beginners Appliqué 6 Week Course
Explore the technique of appliqué, experimenting with layering fabric to create images inspired by nature in this 6 week beginners course.

About this Event

THIS IS A 6 WEEK COURSE STARTING MONDAY 23RD FEBRUARY UNTIL 30TH MARCH 2026.

Join local artist Alice Burford to explore the technique of appliqué, experimenting with layering fabric to create images inspired by nature.

Throughout the 6 weeks, you will explore techniques such as dying fabric, basic stitching, printing on fabric and sewing your designs using layers of different fabrics and materials.

Using nature as inspiration, you will look at surface pattern, composition, colour and design and work towards making a wall hanging and sample pieces.

All materials are included and you will leave with your completed pieces and all the skills and confidence to carry on creating at home.

The course is suitable for complete beginners or those wanting to refresh their skills.

Hot drinks and biscuits are included.

To ensure this Beginners Applique Course is accessible to everyone we have made it Pay What You Can for the 6 week Course. We have suggested £60 to help cover costs but if this is not affordable for you then please input what you can. (When booking, please add a donation of however much you can afford for the 6-week course). Any donation is welcome. If you have any questions about bookings, please contact us by email on amVuIHwgc3RpdGNoLXVwICEgb3JnICEgdWs= or pop into the Stitch-Up Studio.

Stitch-Up CIC is a social enterprise and any profits we make are reinvested straight back into delivering our creative community projects supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Leeds to learn new skills and improve wellbeing.

We will also be using this time to gain feedback from participants about what creative activities they would like to see going forward at Meanwood Community Centre so all feedback is greatly appreciated.

There is ample parking available at the Community Centre Car Park. If you cannot fit in the Car Park, please park on the main part of Stainbeck Avenue, with consideration to the residents please do not park in the cul-de-sac.

The Stitch-Up Studio is to the rear of the Community Centre. Once you arrive in reception please follow the signs for Stitch-Up.
