Howard Assembly Room & DJ Lubi Present.
Howard Assembly Room once again links up with longtime Leeds jazz / world music promoter DJ Lubi (Lubi Jovanovic) to bring one of the top contemporary jazz acts in the UK to the venue for the first time this autumn.
Spiritual jazz ensemble Ancient Infinity Orchestra will make their debut at the Howard Assembly Room on Thursday 9 October 2025 launching their second album "It’s Always About Love" (released on Gondwana Records on Friday 26 September).
This vibrant second album sees Ancient Infinity Orchestra continue with their distinctive line-up: two double basses, harp, saxophones, clarinets, violin, viola, cello, oboe, flutes, mandolin, congas, piano, drum kit, with bells, shakers and other percussion instruments scattered on the floor of live sets and recording sessions, ready for members to use whenever the spirit takes them. This orchestration, and the overlap between membership and friendship, gives Ancient Infinity Orchestra a sound that is at once expansive and intimate, earthy, and cosmic, constantly shifting yet grounded in shared intention. Drinking deep from the well of spiritual jazz and inspired by the soulful sounds of Pharoah Sanders, Alice & John Coltrane and Don Cherry.
Ancient Infinity Orchestra were formed in Leeds in 2018 by double bass player Ozzy Moysey and remained one of the UK’s best kept jazz secrets until they signed with musician/producer Matthew Halsall’s Gondwana Records label in 2023. When they released their debut album River Of Light in November that same year, in no time at all, they went from local jazz heroes to international jazz artists.
At the end of 2023, they recorded a session for Jamie Cullium’s BBC Radio 2 jazz show (live at the famous Maida Vale studios), were named by Gilles Peterson as one of his “tips for 2024”, and their debut album popped up on many “Best Albums Of 2023” lists worldwide. In 2024, they appeared at jazz venues and festivals in the UK and beyond including the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland (established in 1976 and one of Europe’s biggest jazz festivals), Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here Festival and London EFG Jazz Festival. In 2025, they played more shows in mainland Europe as part of specially curated Gondwana Records nights at Club Gretchen Berlin and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg in Germany, as well as Flagey Studios in Brussels, Belgium.
