Join us at the Lawrence Township Hall (411 N. Paw Paw St., Lawrence) on Sunday, August 3, beginning at 2pm, as members of the Van Buren County Historical Society share a talk revealing details about the deaths of the Dr. Six family that occurred in Lawrence in early 1913.
On February 6, 1913, Mrs. Bernice Six and her 10-year-old daughter, Dorothy, die after a house fire. Five weeks later, husband Dr. Arthur Six dies, in private, by suicide. Later, at the coroner’s inquest, Dr. Six is charged with the murders of Bernice and Dorothy by poison, and legal proceedings continue for months. Finally, Dr. Six’s secret lover, a local school teacher, quietly leaves Michigan. And that’s only the beginning. In 1913 people were divided over who or what caused the three deaths of the Dr. Six family.
Historical Society member Geoff Abrams said, “I think we’re going to be presenting more information in one place about these deaths than has ever been done before. We’re going to present the story in such a way that people can come to their own conclusions.”
This is a free event. We welcome anyone who wants to attend. The museum itself will be closed this day, so all our volunteers can enjoy this presentation too. Bonus, the Lawrence Township Hall is air conditioned.
