CUUPS Llamas August 16 2025
For this meeting of CUUPS we will do the ritual first, and then the potluck. The food you bring will be part of the ceremony. Please bring vegetarian foods, cooked or raw, fresh fruits, salads and if possible bring flowers from your garden. We will build a food altar as part of the ceremony. Please gather at 6 as usual, we will have announcements first and then move into ritual space. Weather permitting we may want to move our feast outdoors on the lawn.
The Holiday of Llamas or Lughnassach in early August is raditionally known as the celebration of the first fruits of the harvest. (Fall Equinox or Mabon is the second harvest
festival on the wheel of the year.) Lughnassach means Lugh’s day in Galic. Lugh is an ancient god from Ireland who is the God of Light and could be thought of as a Sun God.
Without Lugh nothing can grow. Lugh is good at everything, farming, animal husbandry, metal smithing, singing and many other talents.
Our ritual will be in two parts, first we will explore what we are harvesting, what we want to do with the bounty, and acknowledging what we share with our community. The second
part we will build a communal altar with our fresh food and flowers. We will invoke Lugh and ask for His blessing on all the bounty we have gathered and all our endeavors. Then share our potluck meal together in gratitude.
