Celebrate nature with a gentle practice of Shinrin Yoku, the Japanese art of forest bathing. What is Forest bathing? Forest bathing does not involve a bath or going into water. Participants simply immerse themselves in the peace of nature, engaging their senses and coming into stillness. We’ll follow a level path into the entry of the woods, overlooking our pond, to meditate in nature. Utilizing our senses, we’ll appreciate the landscape around us with wonder. According to the National Institutes of Health, forest bathing has the potential to lower blood pressure, reduce stress-hormone production and depression, improve sleep and mood, and boost immunity.
What does a gentle forest-bathing practice like? Participants are welcomed and form community with their guide, then are given a thought or theme to contemplate for the practice. A gentle stretch is offered, followed by a brief stroll on even terrain to a clearing by the pond. We’ll sit in a circle on folding chairs for our guided meditation. Participants will then enjoy time to independently observe the world around them or to continue meditating. The practice will close with a tea gathering, as we “drink in” the forest and the shared experience.
