PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Come experience the most magical light show of the summer!
Did you know that watching fireflies can be fun for you AND safe for the bugs? Come learn about fireflies and how to best view these mystical glowing lights of summer!
We will meet at the Mount Greylock Visitor Center at 8:30pm and play a game inside. There will be room for 35 participants to play the game indoors. This activity is designed to help inspire children to respect nature and adopt caring mannerisms when dealing with even the smallest of living resources. The game and indoor program will last approximately 45 minutes.
Seats for the inside program are free and can be reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Please REGISTER AT THE VISITOR CENTER or CALL (413) 499-4262 TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE.
After the game, we will head outdoors and take a short walk in the lower fields that have been described as “filled with sparkling glitter” by one of our previous young Firefly Program participants!
Remember to dress appropriately for evening conditions and bring a flashlight or BLUE LIGHT headlamp. BE CAREFUL not to touch or handle any fireflies if you have bug spray on your hands, as it may harm them.
You may bring a small butterfly net if you have one, however, we ask that NO GLASS JARS OR ANY COLLECTION DEVICES be used outdoors. During the indoor program we will be learning safe "catch and release" methods that you can use at home.
For more information about the program - Call (413) 499-4262.
This program is FREE for all ages. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

ADDITIONAL HOME PROJECT - FIREFLY WATCH: Fireflies have always been faithful harbingers of summer, but their numbers may be dwindling. If so, then why? For anyone interested in helping scientists answer these questions, we will be offering information on how to become a Firefly Watch Citizen Scientist!
