Join Lanesboro Arts for an artist talk, featuring Kelly Ristau. The event will take place at Lanesboro Arts gallery on Friday, August 8th from 12 – 4 pm. During the talk, Kelly will demonstrate about her work and printmaking process.
Kelly is a linocut printmaker with the concept of queer intimacy at the heart of her work, noting that queer identity often blurs the lines between platonic and romantic intimacy. Kelly defines intimacy as the trust required to share one’s mind, body or soul with another person. At the same time, Kelly’s work presents a commentary on the negative impact dating apps and social media have on intimacy. Kelly’s linocut prints locate intimate moments and slow them down through methodical line work, stepping away from the fast paced worlds of modern intimacy. Her work asks the viewers: What does it mean to know and truly be known by someone? How have relationships changed with technology today? Through her work, she hopes to spark a deeper conversation about how intimate relationships are evolving in a technology-driven world, while encouraging others to celebrate and take pride in the connections they hold dear.
Kelly’s work is featured in “Our Bright Unfolding” exhibition – a group exhibition embodying interconnected in motion, a much needed light uplifting the power of artistic expression as a tool for societal transformation. The artwork in ‘Our Bright Unfolding’ reflects personal and collective growth, resilience, radical acts of joy, and the power of unapologetic existence. In a time of profound upheaval when marginalized communities are increasingly under threat, this exhibition serves as a necessary reminder to lean on community, roots of resistance, and visions for change.
