Say goodbye to guesswork and hello to delicious, reliable sourdough!
In this beginner-level, science-backed class, you’ll learn the secrets of sourdough success:
• sourdough starter maintenance
• flour types
• how to mix, stretch, and fold your dough for proper gluten development
• how to understand bulk fermentation and cold proofing
• shaping loaves
• scoring demonstration
• tips for baking
• how wild yeast and bacteria work
• how hydration impacts crumb
• how to troubleshoot common mistakes before they happen
The class is four hours long, and you'll leave with your own healthy starter, starter kit if selected (see details below), a detailed guide with ongoing support after class, and all the confidence you need to make your own sourdough! You will also leave with your own mixed, shaped loaf to take home and bake the next day!
Fresh baked sourdough, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided during class.
There are two options for this class:
1 - Workshop with Starter Kit included: You get dehydrated sourdough starter with instructions & support, active sourdough starter, jar and rubber spatula, mixing bowl, proofing basket, and tea towel, complete sourdough beginner’s guide with ongoing text/email support for questions. This option is $120 for the general public, $115 for Friends of the Market Members.
2 - Workshop Only: Everything you need will be provided for the class, but the only thing you’ll take home is your own loaf of sourdough to bake at home (and all the knowledge you’ve gained!) This is a great option if you’ve already purchased the items, but felt too intimidated to start baking on your own. The cost for the workshop only is $90 for the general public, $85 for Friends of the Market Members.
About the teacher:
The Flour Garden Sourdough Microbakery was created in fall of 2024 by Ashley, a mom of two energetic boys with a deep passion for cooking and baking. From the moment she first discovered the art of sourdough, she knew she wanted to share this joy with her community. Her goal is to create not just delicious loaves, but beautiful culinary experiences that celebrate both design and flavor. She’s excited to bring her love for artisan sourdough to life, crafting unique breads that nourish both the body and the soul. Ashley is one of our Lancaster Farmers Market vendors, and she can’t wait to share her knowledge and creations with you!
