No Matter the Water
No Matter the Water is a five-part audio documentary about what it takes to stay rooted on the Gulf Coast, even as the land and weather change around us. Through intimate, place-based storytelling, the series follows five South Louisianians as they share stories of ingenuity, faith, and practical solutions. From floating homes to restoring land, each episode highlights how people are protecting what matters: their families, their traditions, and their way of life.
This series brings listeners into the kitchens, churches, and backyards to learn about neighbors helping neighbors, local knowledge leading the way, and communities doing what they’ve always done: adapting, working hard, and looking out for each other.
Whether you're interested in disaster recovery, preserving your heritage, or simply hearing how everyday Americans meet hard times with clear-eyed determination, No Matter the Water is a tribute to the strength and wisdom of people who call this place home.
Monique Verdin is an artist and storyteller, citizen of the Houma Nation and Bvlbancha Liberation Radio collaborator. She supports the Okla Hina Ikhish Holo, network of Indigenous gardeners, as the Women's Earth and Climate Action Networks Gulf South food sovereignty coordinator. Monique is the primary steward of the Land Memory Bank & Seed Exchange, facilitating community-built record-making, experiential education, research, and site activations celebrating the diversity of coastal communities and native ecologies present in the wetlands, swamps, and prairies of south Louisiana. Monique co-stewards the Nanih Bvlbancha earthen mound in New Orleans, she is a Gulf South Open School collaborator, and a part of the autonomous and alternative communication mutual aid project, SwampNet.
This event is supported in part by South Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Louisiana State Arts Council, and Acadiana Center for the Arts
