Native Louisiana Edible Plants

Join the Pelican Nature Club as we learn about native Louisiana edibles from Trenton Nicholls, Agriculture Teacher and native flora enthusiast. We will take a walk down the boardwalk at Boy Scout Road in Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge to see, learn about, and identify edible plants in their native habitat. The hike will take place at the Boy Scout Road Trail in Lacombe and begin at 2:00 PM. Please bring water and sunscreen.

This event is open to all ages!

Please note that this event is focused on education only. We will not be collecting or consuming plants. Plant collection from US Fish and Wildlife property is prohibited under federal law.

Accessibility: This hike will cover a well-maintained boardwalk with raised safety lips on either end, wide pull-offs to pass others, and no hand-rail. We will also walk along a wide gravel path. There is a designated accessible paved parking spot at the boardwalk's entrance. There are no restrooms or water source on site.
