Ko je pevec Gino Srđan Jevdjević sredi 90. let zapustil vojno opustošeno Sarajevo in se preselil v Seattle, je s seboj prinesel dve ključni stvari: svoj izjemen vokalni in avtorski talent ter neustavljivo željo po ustvarjanju. Le malo je vedel, da bo po ustanovitvi Kultur Shocka leta 1996 postal ne le gonilna sila ene najvplivnejših zasedb zadnjih desetletij, temveč tudi nekakšen "dedek" gibanja, ki ga danes pogosto imenujemo gypsy punk.

V naslednjih 25 letih so Kultur Shock stopili na pot neskončnega eksperimentiranja, mešali balkanske folk melodije in neparne ritme s surovim metalom in nabritim punk rockom, ostali lirčni, provokativni, politični in neuklonljivi, hkrati pa so zvesto črpali iz svojih vplivov, da bi naredili sevdah še bolj sevdah, rock še bolj rock, ter oblikovali gypsy punk-metal v tisto, kar je danes – Kultur Shock.

Pri opisu njihove glasbe se pogosto omenja Gogol Bordello, System of a Down, Dubioza Kolektiv, Manu Chao, The Pogues in Gang of Four, vendar nobena od teh primerjav ne more povsem zajeti unikatnosti njihovega zvoka in pristopa. Kultur Shock so svoj žanr zase. Prve tri studijske albume je med 2001 in 2006 produciral Bill Gould (Faith No More) in izdal pri svoji založbi KoolArrow Records. Od 2007 naprej pa skupina samostojno producira in izdaja glasbo pod lastno založbo. Od takrat so izdali štiri studijske albume, en EP in tri koncertne albume.

Leta 2021 so praznovali 25 let obstoja, vendar je pandemija preprečila, da bi obletnico proslavili na turneji po Evropi in izbranih mestih v ZDA. Skupina verjame, da lahko le klubska turneja ustvari tesno povezavo s publiko ob tako pomembnem jubileju, zato so spomladi 2022 ponovno načrtovali veliko turnejo.

When singer Gino Srđan Jevdjević left war-torn Sarajevo in the mid-'90s and moved to Seattle, he brought two essential things with him: his incredible vocal and songwriting talent and an unstoppable drive to create. Little did he know that after founding Kultur Shock in 1996, he would not only become the driving force behind one of the most influential bands of the last few decades but also the de facto "godfather" of what is now often referred to as gypsy punk.

Over the next 25 years, Kultur Shock embarked on an endless journey of experimentation, blending Balkan folk melodies and odd time signatures with raw metal and high-energy punk rock. They remained lyrical, provocative, political, and uncompromising, all while staying true to their influences—making sevdah more sevdah, rock more rock, and shaping gypsy punk-metal into what it is today: Kultur Shock.

People often compare their music to Gogol Bordello, System of a Down, Dubioza Kolektiv, Manu Chao, The Pogues, and Gang of Four, but none of these truly capture the uniqueness of their sound and approach. Kultur Shock is a genre of its own.

Between 2001 and 2006, Kultur Shock released their first three studio albums, produced by Bill Gould (Faith No More) and published under his KoolArrow Records label. Since 2007, the band has been fully independent, producing and releasing music under their own label. Since then, they have released four studio albums, one EP, and three live albums.

In 2021, Kultur Shock marked their 25th anniversary, but the pandemic prevented them from celebrating it with a tour across Europe and selected U.S. cities. The band firmly believes that only a club tour can create a deep connection with the audience for such a significant milestone, which is why they planned a major tour in the spring of 2022.
