Bill Evans je svetovno priznani saksofonist in producent, ki je svojo mednarodno kariero začel v 80-ih letih z Milesom Davisom (pri komaj 21 letih) in z njim posnel šest albumov. To sodelovanje ga je popeljalo na turneje in snemanja z velikani, kot so John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock in Mick Jagger. Danes, s 26 samostojnimi albumi, nominacijami za grammyje in neštetimi sodelovanji ter turnejami, Bill Evans ostaja pionirski vodja zasedb, ki neprestano raziskuje nove glasbene svetove in osvaja občinstva po vsem svetu.

Navdihnjen z jazzom in ameriško tradicionalno glasbo, je Bill leta 2005 napisal, produciral in posnel album Soulgrass, ki mu je prinesel drugo nominacijo za grammyja. Soulgrass je bila inovativna fuzija jazza in ameriškega roots zvoka, z banjom, violino, mandolino in dobratom. Bill je takrat izjavil: »Zvok in zvočna krajina se morda spreminjata, a še vedno sem to jaz in moj saksofon!« V tej smeri so sledili še trije albumi: The Other Side of Something, Dragonfly in koncertni Live in Moscow (2014), posnet na turneji po Rusiji, ki jo je podprlo ameriško zunanje ministrstvo.

Po desetih letih inovativnosti s Soulgrass je Bill leta 2015 ustanovil Bill Evans Band, zasedbo, ki združuje sodobni jazz in groove. Poleg saksofona je Evans prvič tudi pel na odru, ob boku bobnarja in vokalista Josha Diona. »Ta zasedba poslušalce popelje na glasbeno potovanje. Zame je to definicija jazza – improvizacija in raziskovanje, ki se ga ljudje lahko dotaknejo. Ne rabi biti kaos. Rad se povežem z občinstvom in jih navdihnem z glasbo, ki se jo občuti – in sliši.«

Njegov album Rise Above (2016) velja za njegovo najbolj dostopno izdajo doslej. Vsebuje vokale legendarnih gostov, kot so Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, JJ Grey, Anders Osborne, Murali Coryell in Josh Dion. »Ta projekt je bil zame epsko potovanje,« pravi Bill. »Od začetka sem si želel ustvariti glasbo skupaj z mojimi najljubšimi pevci. Rezultat je presegel moja pričakovanja.«

Evans redno koncertira z različnimi mednarodnimi zasedbami, med njimi Robben Ford/Bill Evans Band, Spykillers! in VansBand Allstars, ter je iskan gost po največjih svetovnih odrih – od Tokyo Bluenote do evropskih jazz festivalov.

Leta 2024 je izdal svoj 27. album Who I Am, osebno, mojstrsko delo z zvezdniško zasedbo gostujočih glasbenikov (Béla Fleck, Victor Wooten, John Medeski, idr.), ki povsem uteleša njegovo glasbeno pot: pogumno, čustveno in navdihujoče.

Bill Evans is a world-renowned saxophonist and producer who began his international career in the 1980s with Miles Davis (at just 21 years old), recording six albums with him. This collaboration led him to tour and record with giants such as John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, and Mick Jagger. Today, with 26 solo albums, Grammy nominations, and countless collaborations and tours, Bill Evans remains a pioneering bandleader who continuously explores new musical worlds and captivates audiences around the globe.

Inspired by jazz and American roots music, Bill wrote, produced, and recorded the album Soulgrass in 2005, earning him his second Grammy nomination. Soulgrass was an innovative fusion of jazz and Americana, blending banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and Dobro. As Bill said at the time: “The music and soundscape may change, but it’s still me and my saxophone!” This direction continued with three more albums: The Other Side of Something, Dragonfly, and the live album Live in Moscow (2014), recorded during a U.S. State Department–sponsored tour of Russia.

After ten years of innovation with Soulgrass, Bill formed the Bill Evans Band in 2015 — a group that blends contemporary jazz and groove. For the first time, Evans also sang on stage, alongside drummer and vocalist Josh Dion. “This band takes listeners on a musical journey. To me, that’s the definition of jazz — improvisation and exploration that people can connect with. It doesn’t have to be chaos. I love engaging with the audience and inspiring them with music that can be felt — and heard.”

His 2016 album Rise Above is considered his most accessible release to date. It features vocals from legendary guests such as Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, JJ Grey, Anders Osborne, Murali Coryell, and Josh Dion. “This project was an epic journey for me,” says Bill. “From the start, I wanted to create music with some of my favorite singers. The result exceeded all my expectations.”

Evans regularly performs with various international groups, including the Robben Ford/Bill Evans Band, Spykillers!, and VansBand Allstars, and is a sought-after guest on some of the world’s biggest stages — from Tokyo Bluenote to major European jazz festivals.

In 2024, he released his 27th album, Who I Am, a deeply personal and masterful work featuring an all-star cast of guest musicians (including Béla Fleck, Victor Wooten, and John Medeski). The album fully embodies his musical journey: bold, emotional, and inspiring.
