About the event

Professional Development for Artists
Join us for a free, six-week professional development series designed to support artists and creatives in building sustainable, professional careers. Facilitated by renowned artist and cultural worker Lexa Walsh, this workshop series offers practical tools, strategies, and peer support to help you navigate the art world on your own terms.

Each weekly session focuses on a core aspect of creative professional practice, including:

Sustaining Your Practice: Get your work seen, make an impact, and build reciprocal community networks.
Goal Setting & Opportunity Tracking: Clarify your intentions and learn how to find the right residencies, grants, and open calls.
Writing & Speaking About Your Work: Develop compelling bios, artist and project statements, CVs, and grant narratives.
Portfolio & Website Building: Improve your documentation and create a simple, effective website with a Squarespace demo.
Residency Strategies & Peer Review: Explore how to choose and prepare for artist residencies with asset review and feedback.
Budgeting, Pricing & Promotion: Learn how to value your labor, build project budgets, and promote your work through press and outreach.
Each session includes hands-on exercises, worksheets, live demonstrations, and time for discussion. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to level up your practice, this series will equip you with the tools to move forward with confidence and clarity.

About the Facilitator
Lexa Walsh is an artist, cultural worker, and experience maker. A Bay Area native recently relocated to the Hudson Valley, Walsh has exhibited at institutions such as SFMOMA, the Walker Art Center, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and participated in numerous international artist residencies. She has led professional development workshops for organizations including Americans for the Arts, California College of the Arts, and The Alternative Art School.
