Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking technique, which involves manually scratching an image into a plate using a sharp pointed tool, creating its distinctive lines with a slightly raised velvety, known as the burr, which get inked and the plate can be printed from again and again! Unlike traditional etching where grooves are made through the use of acids, drypoint printmaking requires less specialist equipment and does not need any acids or chemicals. The process is great for creating playful illustrations or expressive sketches; and will appeal to those who want to take their drawings into print as well as those who just want to try something different! Suitable for beginners. No prior experience necessary.
