Curator’s Talks: 11am and 2pm (45 minute talk followed by 15 minutes for questions/discussion)
Quaker Tapestry Museum Curator will give an informative talk on ‘Sampled Styles’, our first major exhibition focusing on Quaker embroidery samplers, exploring the evolution of styles, regional and institutional variations, examining what these works can tell us about the lives of Quaker women and girls. At the award winning Quaker Tapestry Museum (Small Visitor Attraction of the Year 2025) you will discover the Quakers’ origins and their impact on society over the last 350 years. From scientific and industrial revolutions to social reform, peace and the abolition of slavery.
Marvel at the stories of Quakers who made history with their deeds of discovery and daring and explore how Quaker beliefs have shaped our world today. The Quaker Tapestry is a modern masterpiece made by 4,000 people around the world. Delight in the detail of the stunning needlework and craftsmanship involved in the creation of these vibrant embroideries. Bring the whole family along for an adventure. With interactive displays, films, toys and fun activities, there is something for everyone. In addition to the Quaker Tapestry you will find other special exhibitions, items from our archive, films and family activities to explore. The museum is housed in Kendal Friends’ Meeting House, a grade II* listed building, designed and built in 1816 by Francis Webster. Built on a site that has been used for Quaker worship for over 300 years the building is regarded as one of the finest Georgian buildings in Cumbria.
