In this 3-day class, we will start with just an idea. With a few measurements, we will design what we want, full-size in 3 views, on a piece of plywood. Then we will purchase materials, and assemble the piece.
This is not so much about making a particular thing, like a cabinet – but the tricky problem-solving involved with any custom building project. This process is called “lofting”.
When professionals build something they’ve built countless times before, they usually don’t need any plans.
But what if you want to build something that you’ve never done before, you want to change the size, shape, or construction of something you do have plans for, or if it has to be a weird shape to fit in a particular place?
The first step of building a boat is to draw it, full-size, in three views. That’s called “lofting”. Then, it’s simply a matter of making pieces of wood shaped exactly as they are in the lofting. The same process can be used for simple things like shelves, cabinets, etc. – the full-size drawing can be quite simple, and it proves to you that you can make this thing before you even buy the wood or do any cutting. This builds your confidence, and saves money in materials.

There is no prerequisite or experience necessary for this class, but any carpentry or woodworking classes or experience would certainly be complimentary.
