This is a deep dive into how mineralogists test rocks! Learn to identify gold versus pyrite, calcite from citrine and a whole variety of minerals.
What’s more?! Katy rock shop has built our own hardness and streak testing kit for those inquisitive minds that want to explore after and on their own, because our greatest enjoyment is to inspire another generation to be in nature and to learn the way it all works ❤️ 🌎 .
Classes are on the SECOND Thursday of the month and each session lasts for 1 hour long and repeated throughout the day. You must RSVP to reserve your seat!
Class 1: 10am
Class 2: 11am
Class 3: 3pm
Class 4: 4pm
Each seat is $20 and you keep all the gems and rocks you find! The miners will learn how to use a magnifying glass, 🔍 observe a rock’s grains, feel texture differences and relate all their observations to the three major rock groups. They will learn critical skills and techniques to test rocks safely at home and to identify the tricky ones ;).
The kids have been walking away knowing how to look at a random rock and determine if it’s igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary 🤯!
