The Jhyamyang Gole Yearly Keynote Speech on "Pathways of Learning: Reflections on Transformations in Research with Tamang Communities" is organized to celebrate the third anniversary of the Tamang Adhyayan Pratisthan.
Short Abstract of the Keynote Speech:
Ben Campbell will discuss aspects of his research over the last thirty five years, and reflect on some of the challenges that face Tamang communities in the contemporary world in which the pressures of global economy and environmental crisis are evident. How can we approach understandings of community and resilience in these circumstances?
About the Speaker:
Dr Ben Campbell is a professor in the Department of Anthropology at Durham University, UK. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Hazard, Risk & Resilience in the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience at the university. He holds a PhD from the University of East Anglia Development Studies, titled ‘The Dynamics of Cooperation: Households and Economy in a Tamang Community of Nepal,’ and an undergraduate degree in social anthropology from Cambridge. Ben has served as the director of the Durham MSc Sustainability, Culture and Development program since 2022 and is also involved with the Sustainability, Energy and Development program. He has published an edited volume, numerous journal articles, and book chapters.
