Adding just three extra days this trek offers a completely new dimension with stunning landscapes cultural encounters and a visit to one of the world’s highest lakes Tilicho Lake (4919m.). The journey begins by diverting from the main Annapurna Circuit route towards Khangsar Village heading to Tilicho Base Camp and then onward to Tilicho Lake. This turquoise glacial lake nestled beneath the majestic Tilicho Peak offers breathtaking views and serene alpine beauty. After experiencing the lake the route reconnects with the main circuit at Yak Kharka continuing towards Thorong La Pass (5416m.) the highest point of the trek and its most physically demanding section.
Tilicho Lake not only enhances the scenic and cultural richness of the trek but also serves as valuable acclimatization. The steep ascent to the lake (an 800m climb from Tilicho Base Camp) helps prepare trekkers for the high-altitude challenge of Thorong La. The trail to Tilicho is especially striking. It passes through picturesque riverside paths dramatic cliffside trails and geologically unique landslide areas that offer a completely different visual experience than the main route. The trek winds through traditional Tibetan-influenced villages Buddhist monasteries and terraced farmlands. One overnight stop will be at Yak Kharka before moving on toward Muktinath a sacred pilgrimage site. From there the journey descends to Jomsom with the option to explore Marpha known for its apple orchards and distilleries before returning to Kathmandu.
