Meet two of our local community group members, doing great work in the region! Matthew from Ride JC (meets here at the teahouse for monthly meetings) and Carson from the Johnson City Railroad Experience (right down the street) and hear about the ways they are working to make our community a better place to live, work, and visit as well as interesting projects that may be coming our way!

Matthew was born and raised in the South. He's now raising a family of his own in Jonesborough. Matthew is a founding organizer of Ride JC, a group focused on helping people explore their communities by foot, bike, bus, and trains. His dream is to be able to hop on a train in Johnson City and travel the country. When he's not working in Ride JC, Matthew likes to attend church, tend a garden, ride his bike, and do historical sword fencing.
Carson has lived in Appalachia most of his adult life after moving to Boone, NC to work on a Masters degree in public history. Since then he has worked for several local and regional museums, served on national and local boards, and taught local history at several colleges in the region. Carson is currently the assistant director at the Johnson City Railroad Experience and has grown a deep passion for alternative transportation including, of course, trains. In his spare time Carson is a member of Appalachian Highlands Historical Fencing, enjoys e-biking, the tweetsie trail, and walking his giant Pyrenees and lumpy Labrador.
