**Course Overview**
Acquire the knowledge, skills, and methodologies necessary to instruct students in the use of pistol mounted optics (PMOs) through this comprehensive three-day course, conducted by Public Safety Training LLC. Taking place in Jefferson City, MO, from November 3-5, 2025, this program is designed to provide in-depth training on the fundamentals and functionalities of PMOs, equipping participants with the techniques required for sighting in pistols and achieving effective red-dot acquisition under diverse conditions. In addition to practical training, the course will also cover relevant case law and include a night fire exercise. Upon completing this course, instructor-level participants will possess the competencies essential for delivering PMO training in both self-defense and duty scenarios.
Successful course completion will result in participants receiving a Pistol Mounted Optics Instructor certification, valid for three (3) years.
**Experience Requirements**
Candidates must be currently certified as pistol instructors. Participants who fail to uphold the training's safety standards or cannot immediately demonstrate the minimum handgun proficiency required may be withdrawn from the course. We strongly encourage prospective students to thoroughly review the course description and ensure they understand the prerequisites before registering.
**Course Outline**
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss relevant training considerations
- Properly sight in (zero) their pistols
- Refine reticle acquisition during presentation
- Conduct equipment inspections and perform necessary maintenance
- Recognize the advantages and limitations of pistol mounted sights
- Understand holdover/offset and apply this knowledge to practice drills
- Review and implement downed optic drills
- Enhance single-handed shooting techniques
- Analyze multiple shot considerations
- Experience the practical benefits of shooting on the move
- Practice engagement techniques with multiple targets
- Utilize optics for improved shooter diagnostics and performance enhancement
- Examine relevant case law and its implications for the use of PMOs
- Participate in a night fire exercise
**Evaluation and Assessment**
This course is centered on instructor development, with a focus on the participant's ability to grasp and effectively convey the course content. It is designed as a formative assessment rather than a traditional "Pass/Fail" format. Participants will be evaluated based on their understanding and instructional capabilities in relation to topics specific to red dot optics.
**Equipment List**
- **Handgun**: Major caliber (9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .45 ACP) with a mounted red dot sight.
- Note: Only semi-automatic centerfire pistols are permitted; revolvers and .22 caliber pistols are not allowed.
- **Holster**: Duty or outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster.
- **Magazine Pouch**: Required for carrying spare magazines.
- **Magazines**: A minimum of three magazines.
- **PMO Adjustment Tools**: Necessary tools for adjusting pistol mounted optics.
- **Spare Batteries**: For the PMO.
- **Belt**: Sturdy belt, at least 1.5 inches wide.
- **Footwear**: Suitable for rapid movement and quick directional changes.
- **Clothing**: Appropriate for training in varied weather conditions.
- **Hydration System**: Recommended for maintaining hydration throughout the course.
- **Eyewear**: Wraparound eyewear with polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses.
- **Hearing Protection**: We recommend electronic hearing protection, earmuffs, and/or earplugs for optimal sound management.

**Ammunition Requirements**
- **Estimated Round Count**: 1,000 rounds (pistol).
- **Lead Core Ammunition**: To be used only on steel targets.
- **Prohibited Ammunition**: Green/brown tip, armor-piercing, or surrogate rounds are strictly prohibited for use on steel at all times.
- **Ammunition Availability**: Ammunition can be purchased though Public Safety Training LLC but we must be notified 60 days in advance.
