“Three-session class (two 2 hour in-class sessions, one remote one-on-one.)
Learn how to make basic sound recordings on phone, tablet or inexpensive handheld digital recorder. For songwriter/musician, poet/writer/story teller, actor, public speaker, anyone who wants to learn to make simple audio recordings of songs, musical content, spoken work, events (speeches at weddings, parties, graduation) or other using basic equipment and simple included apps on smartphones, tablets, simple digital recorders, and computers, using internal microphones included in the devices or simple and inexpensive external mics. We'll focus on techniques such as placement of recording device/mic, basic settings to provide best recordings possible, simple software typically included with smartphones, tablets, small digital recorders, preventing unwanted noise from entering your recording.
All you need is a cell phone or tablet capable of recording sound, headphones/ear buds and any adaptor necessary to connect to your device. I will have various inexpensive external mics that you can use in class. If you have a small handheld digital recorder, you may use that instead, or in addition to the phone as you choose, but one is not necessary to own for the class as I will demonstrate its use on one of mine which will be available for you to use in class. I will bring adaptors to use my mics with either Lighting ports (iPhone) or USB-C ports (eg iPad). I will demonstrate on iPhone and iPad as that is what I own. I will also demonstrate on various handheld digital recorders I have. You may use those for making recordings during class sessions, as available, but feel free to bring one if you own one.
This is NOT a computer class per se, but since it teaches basic techniques useable with any recording device, what you will learn in this class will be useable to record on a computer, using the same apps you use on your phone or tablet using either the built in mic on the computer or an inexpensive external USB connected mic.

For the last class, remote, you will send me a recording you have made and we will discuss any question you have and any suggestions I might be able to provide for improved recordings in the future.
