Get to know the night sky—and yourself—a little better. Join Andrea Merredew for a creative journey under the stars. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll craft a personal journal designed to be your nightly companion for the next 28 days.
Each evening, take your journal outside and observe the sky—not just with your eyes, but with the curiosity of a scientist, the imagination of an artist, the heart of a poet, and the wonder of a philosopher.
Write, sketch, paint, take photos—whatever calls to you. Fill your pages with reflections, facts, images, and expressions inspired by the night sky. What do you notice? What do you feel? Let your observations and emotions unfold across the days.
During the workshop, participants will design and decorate the cover of their DarkSky Journal, making it uniquely their own. They'll also explore a variety of mixed media techniques—such as collage, painting, drawing, intuitive mark-making and writing prompts —that will inspire and support their creative practice over the next 28 days.

Andrea Merredew is a Calgary-based artist and creative guide who believes that art is for everyone and it has the power to transform lives and help care for the earth. With a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies and over 25 years of experience in social and environmental justice, Andrea’s creative work is deeply rooted in care, connection and community.
She founded Springwood Studio in 2009 to support the health of communities and the planet through arts programming for children, teens, and adults. Originally from Montreal, Andrea grew up surrounded by people who made beautiful things, and their creativity inspired her to start making things too. She found joy and freedom in working with her hands and continues to express herself through sculpture, jewelry, and mixed media art journaling.
