About the event

Annual Moland House Reenactment
Come join the Moland House as we celebrate the 248th Anniversary of Washington’s march to Philadelphia in 1777. This reenactment is the primary fundraiser for the Moland House, which served as General George Washington’s headquarters while he and his 11,000 troops encamped near the Neshaminy Creek for 13 days to watch the movements of the British army as it sailed south from New York toward Philadelphia in August 1777.

Washington based his decision to encamp in the area on its strategic location; the Moland House sits near Carr’s Hill, which is the highest point of elevation between the house and a straight line to the Jersey shore, and the Neshaminy Creek. This encampment was hugely significant for it was here that the Marquis de Lafayette was commissioned as a major general and Casimir Pulaski, the Father of American Calvary joined the army. Washington also held a Council of War in the house that included important founding fathers such as Alexander Hamilton, Henry Knox and Henry “Light-Horse Harry” Lee. From Moland House the army will march to Brandywine to engage General Howe’s army. If you are not familiar with The Historic Moland House please see our website: www.Moland.org for information on the site.

On August 16, 2025 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Moland House will host this annual event. We expect to have vendors, reenactors, sutlers of various wares, performers of all sorts, colonial tradesmen, and representatives from various area historic and community sites. George Washington will make an appearance as will a foraging party of British regulars who will be repulsed by our soldiers of the Continental Army.

Admission benefits The Moland Property that is managed and maintained by the all-volunteer Warwick Township Historical Society. Adults $10; Seniors (62+) & WTHS members $5; Youth (5-18) $5; Families (parents & their children under 18) $20.
