Joni Blackman
Fenton History Center
Joni Blackman has been the Director of the Fenton History Center since October 2024. However she was the former Director from 2004-2017. In between she has managed the Chautauqua Blind Association, served as Operations Manager at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute and for a short time worked with Harrington Architect. Although her education and background are in natural sciences, finances, and computers she has had over 40 years working and serving in the non-profit world.
40 years of learning in the real world has provided many of the needed skills to manage a small local history museum. Joni has served as an officer and Director for a number of local non-profit Boards over the past 30 years. She has attended many professional development seminars, Annual Meetings and workshops by American Association of Museums, the Western N.Y. Library Resources Council and regional agencies.
Joni will be talking about the Fenton's Walking Tours. The Fenton History Center offers historic walking tours every summer. This year they have a nonstop schedule which started May 31st and goes through August 9th. The tours explore Jamestown from Lake View Cemetery to the Southside neighborhood – prior to 1930.
