Join us for an unforgettable cultural journey! Immerse yourself in the vibrant rhythms of Rumba, Yoruba, Congo, and more, as expert instructors take you through an exciting fusion of music and movement. Join us for one or both Saturdays, as each day will feature different styles and new material!
In the first two workshops blocks on each day, we’ll start by diving into the music. Whether you’re an experienced musician or a beginner, you’ll be guided through playing traditional percussion instruments at a pace that suits your experience level. You’ll also learn some traditional Cuban “coros,” so we can sing and play together as a group. Alongside the music, you’ll also learn the corresponding dance steps to match the rhythms, giving you the opportunity to practice both the music and movement together—creating a truly immersive experience!
In the third workshop block, you’ll have two options:
---- Music Ensemble – Continue building your skills by singing and playing, creating the beautiful sounds that accompany the dancers, all under the guidance of a skilled coach.
---- Cuban Modern Technique (with live music) – Deepen your movement practice with a focus on Cuban Modern Technique, also known as “Clase Técnica.” This class is designed to help dancers of all levels—beginner to professional—improve quickly in how they move and feel.
In the final workshop, musicians will receive feedback and coaching to refine their craft, while dancers explore more complex combinations using some of our favorite recorded music.
