Presentation: We will explore how divorces involving older couples are different than ones involving younger couples and have issues unique to them, including diminished capacity, reduction in income, and long term care. Further discussed we be program benefits and requirements including: Social Security Disability Insurance/Social Security Retirement; Widower and Auxiliary Beneficiaries; Adult Child Benefits (disabled adult children), Medicare-Alphabet Soup, Traditional Medicare vs. Privatized Medicaid and Medicaid—SSI/Medicaid and partial coverage programs and the Long Term Care Waiver.

Sarah R. Sullivan serves as the Vice President of Advocacy and Family Support at the Arc Jacksonville, Inc. She has been an attorney for 27 years. Since 2021, Ms. Sullivan created and implemented the Life Path Planning and Management Program at the Arc Jacksonville—the first program of its kind in Northeast Florida. The program, designed to support caregivers and provide management services for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, utilized Ms. Sullivan’s knowledge of legal systems, public benefits and the needs of caregivers. Prior to joining the Arc Jacksonville, Ms. Sullivan taught the Disability and Public Benefits Clinic at Florida Coastal School of Law and directed the Pro Bono project at Three Rivers Legal Services, Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida
