Dave Jones Nonet, led by bassist Dave Jones, features a classic lineup showcasing some of the UK’s top jazz musicians. Dave’s compositions are sophisticated and full of surprises, shifting textures and tempos to create unexpected, beautiful moments, as praised by London Jazz News.
The inspiration for this group came from exploring Nonet arrangements by American writers like Bob Hammer, Marty Paich, and Frank Griffith, combined with Dave’s experience playing with ensembles such as the Pete Cater Big Band, Ronnie Scott’s Soul and Jazz Orchestra, BBC Big Band, and the European Community Youth Jazz Orchestra (Eurojazz). These experiences shaped his unique approach to writing for this classic Nonet lineup.
Tonight, Dave is joined by an outstanding group of musicians: Henry Lowther and Mark Armstrong on trumpets, Nick Mills on trombone, Tony Woods on alto saxophone, Tom Ridout on tenor saxophone, and Chris Biscoe on baritone saxophone. The rhythm section includes John Turville on piano, Tristan Mailliot on drums, and Dave himself on bass.
Special guests for the evening are guitarist Mike Outram and vocalist Madeleine Jones. Madeleine, a brilliant pianist and singer, has performed her original music at the prestigious South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, and has worked with artists like Arlo Parks, Olivia Dean, and Jorja Smith.
The program will feature Dave’s arrangements of standards, classic jazz repertoire, and original compositions, blending big band swing energy with Latin jazz and contemporary European jazz influences. Expect a dynamic evening filled with everything from gentle, evocative moments to high-energy, blistering performances.
