#NSW2025Muster
This time we’re visiting one of the most amazing outback landscapes in NSW. The world heritage listed, Lake Mungo, home of the earliest modern human, Mungo Man… some 42,000 years ago (older than the pyramids in Egypt). Mungo Lady also lived by the shores of the lake. Both were ceremoniously buried in the sands, and despite Mungo Lady being cremated, her bones crushed then burnt a second time; her resting place was still discovered some 40,000 years later. Today, many more fossils are being continuously exposed in the eroding lunette… something we witnessed on our last Discovery Tour.
Our camp will be on typical red desert sand amongst small Mulga and Cypress trees for shade. Located at the rear camping area of Mungo Lodge. Now this is a pretty fancy campground, not only are four legged friends welcome, and above ground fire pits allowed; there is also excellent facilities on site, including a Bar and Bistro. Mungo National Park Tours and Scenic Flights are also on offer. I will however, be organising special tour times directly with the Aboriginal Discovery Tours to cater for our large group… including a sunset tour for the photographers amongst us.
As always, everyone is welcome to join us… just need a show of hands for:
1- Camping numbers,
2- Dinner at the Lodge on Sunday 28th September for a 3 hour sitting (6-9pm), please pre-select your meals from menu on separate post under discussions tab.
3- Aboriginal Discovery Tours: day tour on Saturday or Sunday, sunset tour on Saturday only. Scenic flights to be arranged directly with the Lodge.
Mungo Lodge is under 2kms from the Mungo Visitor’s Information Centre… lots to see and read! Then for a small fee you can drive and view the Walls of China from a short boardwalk only. Having gained entry to the NP, then you can also do the 2hr/70km self guided tour. Please note that there are no fuel and shopping facilities within a two hour drive from camp.
See you all there… more updates to follow.
