Iowa City Teach Truth Day of Action 2025

Join local non-profits and community organizers on June 14 at Chauncy Swan Park to stand up for Youth and Truth! There will be lots to learn and enjoy–Live music, Speakers, Snacks, Swag, Banned Book Exchange, Calls to Action, Kid’s Activities, and Community Networking!

Young people face immense challenges — racism, war, gun violence, climate crisis, voter suppression, and more. However, across the country policy makers and corporate power are pushing laws to criminalize teaching honestly about U.S. history and to restrict students’ ability to ask questions and engage in critical thinking.

The laws’ chilling effects reach classrooms nationwide, on top of textbooks and high-stakes testing that have also long distorted curricula. To protect young people’s right to learn — and by default protect the future of democracy and justice — we need to expose this authoritarian agenda and be visible in our defense of teaching people’s history.

We ask EVERYONE to take a public stand in defense of #TeachTruth.
