You’re invited to Downtown Iowa City’s community happy hour! This monthly gathering gives you the opportunity to meet new people, socialize, and learn about the latest happenings in the arts, business, and culture sectors of our community.
Join us at Trumpet Blossom on June 18th for a conversation about the Downtown District’s 2026-2036 renewal and expansion of the Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District (SSMID). Come hear about what this means for our community and how our organization plans to continue expanding and enhancing the services we offer to district members - including economic development, placemaking, downtown safety, events, marketing, and cleaning services.
This month, we're pleased to welcome Jennifer Miller, Chief Administrative Officer at the UI Health Care Medical Center Downtown, to First Round. We look forward to hearing her insights on the recent transition from the former Mercy Hospital, current medical trends, and the impact the ICDD expansion may have on further integrating the downtown hospital into our community. Karen Kubby, co-owner of Beadology Iowa, and SSMID Renewal Committee Co-chair, will also join us to further touch on how the ICDD came to be, details about the renewal process, and why renewing and expanding the SSMID is an important next step for our organization.
