The Astro Restoration Project team is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the launch of Spacelab Astro-1 and the 30th anniversary of Astro-2 with a series of Astro Days events at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Thursday, June 19 and Friday, June 20.
Public engagement sessions are scheduled every hour on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Session discussion topics include space astronomy, astro astronomy missions, and the Astro Restoration project. Dr. John Grunsfeld, a five-time NASA space shuttle astronaut, will give highlights from STS-67 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. See the actual space-flown Astro telescope observatory and meet some of the engineers and scientists who worked the missions.
In addition to the public sessions, the Astro Days celebration includes several events for registered guests. Those include:
Thursday, June 19, at 7 p.m.: “Astronomy from Space, The Legacy of the Astro Missions” at the INTUITIVE® Planetarium
Friday, June 20, at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.: Astro Panel Sessions in the Discovery Theater
Friday, June 20 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.: Astro Reception in the Main Museum Atrium (next to the Astro exhibit area)
