Join us for a fun point to point hike along the Pennypack Creek, this time featuring more trails in the upper portion, many we have never done before!
We'll mix it up between being directly beside the creek and out in mowed field trails, just long enough to get warm and then cool down again when we get back to the creek.
It's a very diverse and interesting route that follows foot paths, old woods roads, and the former Reading Railroad at times.
After meeting at Pennypack Park across from the Fox Chase Farm, we will shuttle with as few cars as possible to the beginning where we'll wander around Mason's Mill Park. Soon after that, we head directly along the Pennypack downstream on an old road.
We'll turn off and visit field trails around The Lord's New Trust, the Beech Spring Trail, and then head around the Pennypack Ecological Trust.
We'll head back down to the creek and follow it back upstream a bit to a crossing, then follow the old Reading Railroad bed south to Bryn Athyn. There, we'll stop for a break at the All Aboard food truck.
The route may be subject to change around this area because there are several other places to visit, and we'll watch our mileage closely from this point.
We'll head south on the rail trail eventually to Lorimer Park, follow the creek more, and either loop the fields there, follow some new rail trail, and/or head uphill to visit the Thoreau hut. At that point, it will depend on the timing.
Distance will be about 15 miles. If needed, contact me at 908 343 8374
