Box Turtles

The turtles in Turtle Pond aren’t the only shelled creatures that call Jesse Jones Park their home. If you have ever gone wandering in the woods, you may have stumbled across some of our more elusive Testudinae family members – box turtles. Adeptly named, box turtles are capable of completely “boxing” themselves inside of their shells for protection. Join Martin de Vore in the nature center to learn more about these shy animals and meet some of our resident box turtles up close. Afterwards, take a self-guided stroll on our trails to enjoy the biodiversity of life in Jesse Jones Park.
