Pieces, installed in natural settings, evoke feelings of sanctuary, ceremony, and mystery. Exploring tree trunks of all sizes as a medium, his structures can be familiar--resembling pergolas, burial scaffolds, and wedding canopies--and at the same time mystical. His work beckons us to look closer and, in doing so, experience the natural world through a portal that is both organic and carefully balanced.
“For a long time I called my sculptures sketches because that’s what they look like in an open landscape. But they are three-dimensional and change shape depending on where you stand. They frame a unique relationship with nature. The way in which the elements are chosen, prepared, and assembled is an expression of balance and harmony.
People are always curious and find them intriguing, approachable. When they stand inside, they forget for a minute that they're in nature and they’re comfortable
ABOUT THE ARTIST BOB BANGIOLA:
Robert as Art Manager helps artists and entrepreneurs better connect with their art and audiences. Robert’s resume includes NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Materials for the Arts, BAM, Bard College, Disney, and he served as cultural envoy to Kenya with the US State Department. Robert has worked with artists including Philip Glass, Louise Bourgeois, painters, sculptures, writers and musicians on three continents. He learned a great deal about physical experience and expression, and defining success.
Robert’s practice and Bangiola Method is dynamic, playful... and effective
In 2006, when studying Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) with the Upledger Institute, Robert pursued CST to answer questions about his own unusual high physical sensitivity and sympathetic sensation. Combined, these traits enable him to actually feel what others feel in their bodies. Robert also studied Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, Mindful Caregiving (at the Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco), Alexander Technique, and others, including the healing Bengston Method with Dr. Bill Bengston.
His life-long passion for and study of balance in nature has surfaced in his stick table sculpture. and informs his practice. Read more about his sculpture here.
“I learned lessons in the Americas, Asia, Europe, East and West Africa. I’ve been to natural and man-made places, some sacred, some unexpected.
I learned the depth of sensitivity and it’s ability to heal, provide comfort, and provide a dynamic body/mind comfort."

WHILE HUDSON OPEN STUDIOS ARE FREE, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO to support our on-going support of queer artists every month at events all over the region. Curating so many queer arts events throughout the year takes a lot of staff time and web tools that cost money to maintain. Many of the events we curate also charge money for tickets, and Q-MoB can offer scholarships to low-income men thanks to your generosity.
