Love snakes? This adults-only presentation will make you feel like a proverbial “kid in a candy shop.” Loathe snakes? You’ll walk away from this presentation with a whole new enlightened and empathetic attitude toward them.
Too many citizens are misinformed, unnecessarily disgusted, or fearful of wild snakes in the environment. Our presenters, Jim and Carol McGrath, will bring live specimens of different species of Michigan-native snakes and share facts about them to increase understanding and reduce fear. During the presentation, audience members will be offered up-close encounters, identification tips, and issues related to the survival of the very species found in your neighborhood. At the end of the presentation, audience members will be invited to handle and photograph these ultra-gentle specimens.
Biologists Jim and Carol McGrath own and operate Nature Discovery, a private nature center attached to their home north of Williamston, which they bill as “the biggest little nature center in Michigan.” They teach and present on an array of Michigan-specific wildlife, however, the center also houses some 40 species of Michigan-native reptiles & amphibians that they utilize educationally in a huge array of venues among audiences of all ages throughout the state.
