For Kata, the Kyu grades will compete across 2 rounds where everybody performs in both rounds and the Dan grades will compete in a repechage. Everybody up to Purple belt can perform the same kata across both rounds and Brown belts must perform two different katas. At the end of each performance 3 scores will be given, all scores will be added together. If after 2 rounds there isn't a clear 1st, 2nd & 3rd place, a final round will take place for the top 3-6 competitors where any previous kata may be repeated. For the Black belts, two competitors will demonstrate their kata with 3 referees then voting for the winner. After 2 losses a competitor is eliminated. A different kata must be performed in each round, but any previous kata can be repeated in the final.
For team kata, the Kyu grades must perform a Kata of their choice. Whilst the Dan grades must perform a Kata of their choice followed by a demonstration of Bunkai from their Kata. 3 referees will then rank the teams to determine a result.
For sparring, all sections will run as a repechage. This gives each competitor 2 lives and therefore guarantees a minimum of two bouts for all entrants.
