It’s the dead of summer, 1919, and you’re invited to join us for a theatrical, historically-based séance in the spooky, candlelit parlor of the Keith House at Graeme Park. The experience will be conducted in the style of an early 20th century séance when “mediums” and “psychics” took advantage of those for whom death was a very near experience – perhaps having recently lost loved ones in the 1918 flu pandemic or the first World War – by using trickery and deceit to convince them they were in contact with their beloved.
Our “medium” will lead the group through a reenactment of this popular form of spiritualism, which some took seriously, some took as a form of entertainment, and some were skeptical of. Following the séance, there will be a short discussion on the history of and psychology behind this phenomena and you can decide for yourself – would you have been a spiritualist or a skeptic?
The experience is $20/person + Eventbrite fee and groups are limited to 20 people. Light refreshments will be served in the Visitors’ Center following the program.
We’re also offering a VIP option. For an additional $5, tour the Keith House before the event with séance host "Jennie Davis" of the Penrose family. VIP tour will begin 30 minutes before the seance (5:30).
