About the event

Seminar by Mr. Pak-Tik FONG (Simon Fraser University)
Bosonic quantum systems, such as photons, phonons, atoms and spins ensembles, are ubiquitous in implementing platforms of quantum technologies. Quantum operations are essential in controlling the systems and realizing countless quantum applications. However, realizable bosonic quantum operations are rather limited in type and their engineering generally requires complicated algorithms. A recently developed technique, known as quantum signal processing (QSP), has been shown to offer a powerful and efficient framework for engineering bosonic operations across various tasks, e.g. Hamiltonian simulation and quantum measurement. QSP was originally rooted in the composite-pulse technique for controlling two-level quantum systems e.g., in nuclear magnetic resonance. It has been extended to control the bosonic system by coupling with an ancillary qubit, since such a qubit-bosonic hybridized system can be recognized as a collection of two-level subspaces. In this talk, I will introduce the QSP framework and its applications to the control of qubit-bosonic hybridized systems. Specifically, I will present our recent work in engineering non-Gaussian gates for entangling logical qudits and deterministically generating multi-component cat states. Additionally, our versatile QSP formalism can be extended to engineering non-unitary operations for various applications, such as noiseless linear amplification and generalized-parity measurement.
