The 8th Annual Edna Lee Stewart Scholarship Breakfast honors the legacy of Edna Stewart, beloved aunt of our Executive Director and the visionary behind the iconic Edna’s Restaurant. For 44 years, Edna’s Restaurant stood as a cherished landmark on Chicago’s West Side, known not only for its soul food but also for its rich history. The restaurant proudly served civil rights leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., two sitting U.S. Presidents, local and national politicians, Oprah Winfrey Studios, and countless patrons from across the country. While scholarship recipients attend free of charge, we kindly ask that parents purchase a ticket and join us in celebrating their student’s achievements.

In partnership with Exelon EAARA–Chicago, we will host this year’s breakfast gala on Saturday, August 2, 2025, recognizing our scholarship recipients, presenting Student Perseverance Awards, and honoring local changemakers with the Community Image Awards.
