Homer Burning Basket 2025

22nd annual. OPEN - Basket of Remembrance & Unburdening, is a community interactive, impermanent art experience. It involves the building of a large intricately woven basket sculpture using natural plant materials consciously gathered from the local countryside. 'Build week' takes place at Mariner Park Sept 1-6 from noon to sundown each day. Come help, YOU are needed and appreciated.
On Sept 7 the basket is available for public participation by way of decorating the outside with written remembrances of departed loved ones and other positive messages. Personal sentiments of 'unburdening' can be tucked inside. Then, at sundown the torch is lit, the basket is ignited and burned as a performance of fire-art to symbolically release our collective positive intentions. Something has ended. Something has begun.
