Why a support group?
Support groups are often seen as the safest place to talk about emotions and difficult subjects. Group members develop a sense of community through shared experiences and feelings. People feel connected with other members, which can increase their ability to cope. They feel understood, supported, cared for, and accepted.
People who do not have cancer may not understand the experiences of people who have cancer, or they may dismiss their feelings. People within the group feel heard and understood; outside of groups, they sometimes feel they have to hide their feelings to protect others.
These groups help people feel comfortable to have a good cry, a good laugh, or just relax and feel at ease. Humor builds warmth in the group and helps members cope with confronting issues. Food will be provided!
